Version: 1.1.1

Status: Tested and working

Introduction

PDF files can easily grow over 100mb if images are added (especially bitmap images) and the file saved with the save command (try to use the save as over the existing file since it instead of append to the file over writes it). This is often not the thought when you create a PDF file for maybe mailing out, so how to reduce the PDF file?

Reduce PDF file

  • Try to use vector images instead of bitmap images.
  • Print the PDF to a new PDF with software as CutePDF or PDFCreator (at this writting PDFCreator doesn't work out of the box for Vista, CutePDF does) Verify that the PDF looks as expected after the printing.
  • In Adobe Acrobat go File -> Reduce File Size... and chose to only support latest Adobe Reader (if that works for the potential readers) and the file size will be reduced.

The later version to be compatible with, the smaller size the PDF will be.

  • in Adobe Acrobat go Advanced -> PDF Optimizer... and compress images/remove useless data and then press OK to save the file.
